Style With A Cause | TOMS For HaitiMarch 25, 2014 | LOVE EMBRACE INSPIRE | By Tiffany Nicole
Are you one who wants to make a difference in just a person's life? There are so many incredible easy ways to change someone's life especially a child in need. Recently, I came across a Movement called Tom's for Haiti.
"TOMS was founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie, inspired by a trip to Argentina where he saw extreme poverty and health conditions, as well as children walking without shoes. That’s when he recognized the traditional Argentine alpargata shoe as a simple, yet revolutionary solution. He quickly set out to reinvent the alpargata for the U.S. market with a simple goal: to show how together, we can create a better tomorrow by taking compassionate action today.
To realize this mission, Blake made a commitment to match every pair of TOMS purchased with a new pair given to a child in need. One for One. “I was so overwhelmed by the spirit of the South American people, especially those who had so little,” Mycoskie said. “And I was instantly struck with the desire — the responsibility — to do more.”
What a great way to change a life. After the many natural disasters that have struck Haiti in the past 5-10 years, there are still so many families who are struggling to get back on track, struggling with various types of needs. So many children are without their parents and family members that provided food, shelter, clothing and most of all love and attention. So remember the next time you purchase a pair of shoes for yourself, that there is some child out there who does not have a pair to wear. Purchasing a pair of shoes through TOM's will surely change a life.
