May 2014 ~ Natural of the Month: Kelsey
My name is Kelsey Caudle I'm from Atlanta by way of the Bronx. I love to read inspirational books, hang with close friends and travel.
LoveEmbraceInspire: What made you decide to go natural?
Kelsey: There were a couple of factors that inspired me to go natural. I used to watch America's Next Top Model and I fell in love with Bre Scullark's hair and wanted big curly hair just like hers. I also had a ton of heat damage and wanted to get rid of it.
LoveEmbraceInspire: Did you transition or "Big Chop"? What was that process like for you?
Kelsey: I did the big chop because I have no patience and like instant results. I remember trying the Kinky Curly line on my hair the day before my big chop and I remember my new growth having great results but the relaxed part of my hair was so stringy and that was it. I was over the two different textures so the next day I went to the salon and had all of my hair (except two inches) cut off.
LoveEmbraceInspire: Did you have any fears or were you fearless? If apprehensive, how did you overcome your fears?
Kelsey: I was fearless because it was something that I was so sure that I wanted to do.
LoveEmbraceInspire: Name some reasons why you are happy about your decision?
Kelsey: I am happy about my decision because now my hair is the longest and healthiest its ever been and I have been given many opportunities to help other women and girls learn how to take care of their hair.
LoveEmbraceInspire: What do you love most about your hair?
Kelsey: I love everything about my hair. Mostly i love how versatile and strong it is.
LoveEmbraceInspire: What are some of your favorite hair products?
Kelsey: Thats a short list lol. My favorite products are The Mane Choice Deep Conditioner, Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner and Aussie Moist Conditioner
LoveEmbraceInspire: What is your hair routine?
Kelsy: In a weeks time I deep condition once a week and detangle twice a week in the shower. I normally just stick to my wash n go for my main hairstyle.
LoveEmbraceInspire: What advice would you give someone considering going natural or who is new to being a natural?
Kelsy: I would tell them to focus on loving themselves. I've noticed that a lot of ladies are so focused on trying to get someone else's curl pattern or achieve a certain look instead of loving and embracing what they have. It is so important to love yourself. Its great to have inspirations and goals but never put anyone on a pedestal. We are all human :)
