Faith & Spirit | Servant-hood: Are You Thinking Like A Servant?
When you truly love someone you're always thinking about them. Thinking about their smile, how wonderful they are and how significant they are in your life. When you truly love someone, you're always thinking about what makes them smile, what makes them happy and how you can contribute to keeping their happiness going.
It's absolutely no different with loving God, truly and wholeheartedly. When we truly love God we will develop a desire to want to please Him in every way. And after all He has done for us and continues to do, we owe Him our lives. He requires that we "Love the Lord your God with all your heart," Matthew 22:37 and that we "have no other gods before Him", Exodus 20:3. In exchange for giving of his Son to die on the cross for our sins, we owe Him our lives and ought to give our lives in service to Him.
True Servants of Christ:
1) Focus on others not themselves. Not necessarily thinking less of themselves, but thinking of themselves less. They don't focus on their own needs, but inconvenience themselves for the call of the Lord their God.
Servant-hood is the laying down or laying aside of one's self for the work of the Lord. "His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matthew 25:11
2). Servants of Christ will think about their work, not what others are doing.
3). Servants of Christ base their identity in Christ not on the standards, expectations and opinions of this world.
4). Servants of Christ are secure and in that security, they are able to serve humbly. Insecure people are always worried about how they will appear. They are fearful of the exposure of their weaknesses.
Settle your identity in Christ and do not let others define who you are.
5). Servants see ministry as an privilege not an obligation. Doing the work of the Lord is pleasing to a true servant, even in hard times, their focus is to complete the mission God has assigned to them to complete.
There is nothing God wouldn't do for us if we do His work and build His Kingdom. When we take care of God's business, He will take care of ours. "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you." Matthew 6:33
