Esteem | God’s Love ReflectedEsteem | | By Catherine Manning
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up which is planted. Ecclesiastes 3:1
God planted seeds of love all around us. Every stage of our life has presented us with opportunities to cultivate these seeds and harvest the fruits of his love. God’s intent was never for us to feel alone. To the contrary, this life was meant for us to draw closer to him. However, many of us find it difficult to accept God’s love. We cannot imagine that such a higher power would not only know us, but love us individually. I have felt this in my own life. I used to view God as this abstract being that watched over us and judged us based on our actions on earth. I completely missed the fact that he was my heavenly father and loved me. You just start to look yourself in the mirror and think, what makes me so special. Why would he love me? But in those moments of self-doubt I realized that God’s perception of myself must be much different than my own. I find encouragement in the fact that he has a plan and his plan is centered on us. Each of us has something special we can bring to the world. Maybe you are at the same spot I was. You cannot grasp the idea that God loves you. I challenge you to look into the mirror like I did, but this time imagine the many kind words God would say. He would tell you that you are important to him because you are made in his image. He would say that Christ died for you. He would command you to love yourself as much as he loves you. He would remind you that you are important.
God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
As you recognize God’s hand in your life you will be able to bring happiness to yourself and those around you. Once you accept that God loves you for everything you are, you can share this concept with others. You can be the one to plant the seeds of love in other people. You can be the encouragement they need to draw closer to God.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:6
